Construction workers who have ever done jobs at the Kansas City Department of Energy plant, known as Bendix/AlliedSignal/Honeywell over the years, are eligible for health screenings under the Building Trades National Medical Screening Program.
Because many workers, even those who only worked a day or short period for contractors, at the site could have been exposed to harmful materials, the federal government has established a program in conjunction with the Building Trades Department, AFL-CIO. Plants involved in nuclear weapons or weapons parts production all over the nation are involved. The Kansas City plant on Bannister Road has seen thousands of contractors and workers over the years.
Eligible workers can receive a free health screening and, if certain toxic substances are found, health care treatment and cash settlements. Families of deceased workers can also bring records to be checked for possible exposure and a settlement.
