The bill’s prospects are uncertain but all are urged to contact legislators to express opposition. Contractors and other businesses are urged to join the Missouri Campaign for Quality Construction, www.mo-cqc.org.
Other key Missouri legislation includes HB 138, which would exempt school districts from prevailing wage. In Kansas, HB 2135 would repeal the reforms on misclassification passed with LMC support several years ago; a hearing is scheduled for Monday.
•The Minority Coalition made a Sunshine law request regarding the Job Order Contracting system at city of Kansas City, Mo., involving KBR. The Coalition was not satisfied with a presentation from KBR and meeting with Cedric Rowan and Phillip Yelder. The Coalition will share the findings of its request with the committee. The Contract Compliance Task Force continues working on the many issues with prevailing wage enforcement on city projects.
•The federal SBA has unveiled the 8M program to generate at least 5% women contractors on federal projects. The Administration has also announced proposals for addressing the unemployment trust fund debt from states; this and similar state and federal proposals need close scrutiny from the industry.
