Needed change is best approached by giving direction to the logical part of our brain, appealing to the emotional and making the path as easy as possible, author Chip Heath told several hundred health care reformers.
Heath was speaking to the national meeting of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Aligning Force for Quality project. Sixteen communities, including the Kansas City area, are receiving significant resources to spur better quality health care delivery. A diverse delegation of more than a dozen KC-area leaders are attending the meeting, which ends Thursday.
Attendees also learned about engaging employers in the quality improvement process, improving patient experiences, the complexities of determining cost and of public reporting of cost, met new project director Robert Graham (a KC native) and other topics. Each community is addressing key issues but with methods that fit their unique circumstances.
