We mourn the passing of former LMC Co-Chair Khensa Karim's father, Masoud Karim.
Also in our thoughts is the family of Jim Mongan, former executive director of Truman Medical Centers and a national figure in health care reform. He visited Kansas City just a year or so ago to discuss health care reform. Most recently he served as CEO of the Boston public hospital and was an architect of the Massachusetts health care reform.

The Missouri state budget will fund 7 of the 9 current enforcement positions in the Dept. of Labor. The House's budget cut all positions while the Senate kept the current staffing. The positions enforce labor laws such as prevailing wage, child labor and others. The LMC supported funding for the full nine positions.

In watching a rehearsal of LMC member Kansas City Ballet's next performance which begins tonight, the dancers performed several difficult and dangerous steps. The dancers explained that building trust over time is critical to making such a performance work. The same is true in any workplace: where trust leads to collaboration, outstanding and difficult achievements are possible.

This weekend's ballet performances--beginning tonight--mark the final ones in the Lyric Opera facility. In the fall the Ballet moves to a new office and rehearsal facility and will perform in the new Performing Arts Center--both built by LMC member J.E Dunn Construction Co.

The iBuild Showcase sponsored by the National Institute for Construction Excellence (NICE) drew about 1,500 middle and high school students April 28 at Bartle Hall. Mayor-Elect Sly James spoke to the students and signed many iBuild t-shirts. Congratulations to iBuild Committee Chair Alise Martiny, NICE President KC Borden, NICE Education Consultant Barbara Schilling, Volunteer Chair Robin Flloyd and the many volunteers, booth sponsors and teachers who made the event possible.
