Two upcoming health care events are of interest to the labor-management community, one focused on addressing cost issues and the other on quality. Both are brought to Kansas City with the help of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Aligning Forces for Quality grant and the Kansas City Quality Improvement Consortium:
*Aug. 31, Cost and Efficiency Measuring Convening, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Kauffman Foundation.
*Sept. 15, Care About Your Care, a coordinated effort to help people identify, understand and receive high quality care, 10:30-11:45 a.m., Kauffman Foundation.

LMC Board Prepares for Fall Ballots, 2012 Legislatures

LMC Board Meeting Summary of Minutes

July 21, 2011 • Rockhurst University • 8 a.m.

Attending:Sam Alpert, Jack Bainbridge, Scott Hoisington, Dave Kendrick, Mike Kotubey, Gary O’Bannon, Bob Jacobi.

•Thanks to James Daley and Rockhurst University for hosting.

•M/S/C to approve the proposed 2011-12 budget.

•Issues Discussion: The LMC should pursue development of a model that would better track the impact of economic incentives on infrastructure improvement and job creation.  As November ballot issues emerge, an email ballot or special meeting will likely take place to develop LMC positions.  The impact of proposed changes in accounting rules that would capitalize operating leases will be monitored; the proposed change would harm the office building rental market.  Jackson County has made TIF commission appointments which include former LMC co-chair Kevin Sexton.

•Next year’s Mid-America Labor/Management Conference will be July 15-18, which means the LMC golf tournament will need a different date than the third Monday in July for 2012.

•Potential Public Officials Reception sites include the Sporting KC stadium, Performing Arts Center, Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City Ballet, likely on Nov. 17.

•The next meeting will be at 8 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, location TBA.
