The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City

The death of Joseph McNerney was recently reported. His Kansas City Star obituary noted that he has a 65-year member of Pipefitters Local 533 and a vice president of US Engineering."Joe was able to bridge the gap between Union and Management" the obituary said. "Joe was totally devoted to both--recognizing that everyone's best interest depended upon a good and fair working relationship." We send condolences to his family. His example of one worth emulating and what the LMC is all about.

LMC Elects New Officers, Board Members

The LMC Board of Directors elected the folllowing new members at its July 25 meeting (see minutes below):

LMC Board of Directors Summary of Minutes

July 25, 2012, 8 a.m. • City of Kansas City, Mo., City Hall

•Thanks to Gary O’Bannon and thecity of Kansas City, Mo., for hosting. 

•M/S/C to approve the Financial Report subject to audit.

•The cost for the Mid-Level Leadership Program will be increased by $50 per person. 

•The Issues Committee Report discussed upcoming ballot issues and the prospect of significant turnover in the state legislatures next year.  The Board will pursue meetings with key legislative leaders in the next two months to build relationships and discuss top issue priorities.

The Construction Industry Committee next meets at 8 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9 at Mark One Electric Co., Inc., 909 Troost.

Applications are now available for the Mid-Level Leadership Program sponsored by the LMC and Rockhurst University. The first session will be Sept. 26; applications are due Sept. 15. Contact the LMC for brochure and application form.

LMC Golf Tourney Scores

The LMC 15th Annual Craig Whitaker Memorial Carpenters District Council Cigna Golf Tournament beat the heat Monday with a successful day of golf, relationship-building and prizes.  Photos are posted to the blog.

The winning foursome was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.  Second place was taken by Bank of Labor, and third by Wilson-McShane Corp.  Tony Chiaverini, Insco Environmental, nailed the nearest-to-the-pin prize while Graham Jones, J.E. Dunn Construction Co., took the longest drive.

Participants won numerous raffle prizes including a golf bag, drill, tool belt, shirts, iPods, golf balls and more in addition to goodies for each player.  All were treated to breakfast, snack and dessert goodies baked by Mary Jacobi as well.

The LMC has endorsed Kansas City, Mo., Questions 1 and 2 on the Aug. 7 ballot.
