•M/S/C to recommend no action at this time on Jackson County Question 1, the Translational Medicine Institute sales tax. Further discussions will be held with the issue’s proponents. The LMC Board will make a determination on Oct. 17.
•The KCMO Council has approved a revised plan for the Crime Lab/Patrol Station project. The designers must complete a revised design before work is put out for bid, likely late this year at the earliest.
•The KCMO Workforce Board is reviewing compliance and meeting with city contractors and unions to improve compliance. The Human Relations Department is also requesting updated information from apprenticeship programs, and all are encouraged to respond. Compliance meetings are open to the public; the next one is Thursday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.
•The federal government shutdown has impeded contractors from hiring, particularly of workers who do not bring with them two required documents such as birth certificate and drivers’ license to complete I-9 forms. Workers are urged to get copies of their birth certificates to expedite the hiring process as Social Security offices and e-Verify are affected by the shutdown.
•NICE has hired a new executive director, Greg Lever. Planning is underway for the 2014 iBuild Showcase and the Crayons-to-Cad middle school program as well as other NICE programs.
•The Building Trades and Carpenters have joined IBEW Local 124 in supporting KCCP’s expanding marketing efforts. A new brochure and web site are being developed.
