Construction Industry Steering Team Summary of Minutes

•Introductions and thanks to Rosie Biondo and Mark One for hosting.
•The major bid package, #4, for the Crime Lab/Patrol Station project will be out by January for the police station and community center with work slated to begin in March. The next bid package, #4, for the crime lab and other aspects, is likely to come out in February with June construction start. Creative thinking is needed to address Section 3 requirements; a meeting Nov. 21, 2:30 p.m. at the Builders’ will focus on Section 3. Groundbreaking for the project is Nov. 19, 10 a.m.
•A Joint Compliance Monitoring Program for KCMO is being developed. The presentation by Chris Jensen, city of Los Angeles, was well-received. The draft language will be worked on at a meeting next week with input from all contractor groups, crafts and the city. Other local governments and school districts will be encouraged to participate once the city program has been developed.
•The Missouri legislative session will again see major unresolved issues from 2013 revived.
•The Missouri Economic Development Dept. is focusing on STEM-related projects.
•A new website is being developed for the Kansas City Construction Partners and updated brochures are available..
•NICE executive director Greg Lever was introduced. The 2014 iBuild Showcase is scheduled for April 17; NICE will soon have a revised web site and is beginning new awareness and fund raising initiatives.
•It is vitally important for crafts to turn in wage reports in Missouri by the end-of-the-year deadline. Changes in the prevailing wage law mean more nonunion contractors are turning in reports. Reports are also due for the Kansas federal heavy and highway wages.
•The Missouri minimum wage increases to $7.50 per hour.
•All are invited to an educational session on “right-to-work” conducted by the Missouri AFL-CIO
on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 6-7:15 p.m. at IBEW Local 124. Food will be provided.
