•Introductions and thanks to Rosie Biondo and Mark One for hosting.
•The bids on the KCMO East Patrol/Crime Lab project have been let., Budget, Section 3 and MBE/WBE goals are being met.
•The Missouri House of Representatives addressed three key bills this week:
--HB 1770, “right-to-work,” was perfected but was four votes short of the number needed for
passage. The bill could come back to the floor for final passage between now and May 16.
--HB 1144, eliminating prevailing wage on MHDC-financed projects in designated disaster areas,
was perfected with 85 votes. It still requires a third reading for passage.
--HJR 68, the transportation sales tax, was passed with 96 votes. It now goes to the Senate.
The Senate also heard HB 1501 including data center and angel incentives and a lower cap on
historic and low income tax credits. Medicaid expansion remains alive but is not in the budget
bills being debated now. The Senate passed SB 739, $600 million in bonding authority. HB
1945, allowing design build on state projects, passed out of committee. HB 1594, allowing
volunteer labor on public projects to be exempt from prevailing wage, was perfected.
•Kansas is considering a bill to establish a state OSHA program.
•Numerous school districts and local governments passed bond issues for capital projects Tuesday, including $500 million in KCMO water bonds. Greg Chastain, Sheet Metal Workers Local 2, was reelected to the Smithville School Board. Eileen Weir is the new mayor of Independence. Joe Runions, IBEW Local 124 retiree, is unopposed in his race to be reelected to the Missouri House.
•NICE is holding the iBuild Showcase April 17 with more than 1,600 students, both middle and high school, attending. Volunteers are still needed.
•Streetcar work is underway in KCMO, with contractor orientation soon and laying of tracks expected to begin June 1.
