The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City thanks you for helping 2014 to be a successful year for our mission of enhancing collaboration and trust between labor and management. The next meeting of the Construction Industry Committee will be 8 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at Mark One Electric Co., Inc., 909 Troost.

Condolences and prayers to Roger Beach, president of the AFL-CIO Tri-County Labor Council of Eastern Kansas and member of IBEW Local 124, on the tragic death of his son Clinton. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and funeral 10 a.m. Wednesday in Tonganoxie. Check with Quisenberry Funeral Home there for details.

The LMC sends its condolences to Missouri State Sen. Paul LeVota on the passing of his father. Services include visitation Friday, Dec. 19, 6-8 p.m. and funeral Mass Saturday at 9 a.m., both at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S Lee's Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055.

The LMC shares condolences with the Eisler family on the death of Bill Eisler. Bill was a longtime attorney and labor arbitrator. His brother, Bob Eisler, is a retired member of IBEW Local 124, past business agent for SEIU and leader at Humana (founded by Bob and others as Prime Health). Bill and Bob's father, Bob Sr., was the longtime leader of SEIU (then Local 96, now Local 1).

Congrats to Mid-Level Leadership graduate Amanda Stinger, recently appointed Senior Labor Relations Manager at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority.

Construction Industry Steering Team Summary of Minutes

•Thanks to Rosana Privitera Biondo and Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting.

•Updates were presented on legislative activities at the federal level, in Missouri and Kansas and upcoming KCMO council races.  Multiemployer pension fund reforms are in the federal omnibus spending bill; opinion is divided on its impact. (see attached)

•Despite assurances that a voluntary model would be pursued, an ordinance to mandate energy standards in KCMO is being developed.  The City Energy Project continues to provide encouragement and a benchmarking program, which is currently voluntary, for larger buildings.  The project’s scope now includes all business buildings.  About 130 of its goal of 200 are participating.  KCPL rebates are being offered though there are no financing programs in place.

•OSHA has changed standards for reporting workplace injuries.  Many organizations will be affected.  Brian Wood can be contacted for more information; also the website www.osha.gov/recordkeeping2014 includes details.

•NICE is planning the 2015 iBuild Showcase and will add a reception for sponsors and local dignitaries the evening of April 13 before the event on April 14.  NICE continues efforts to engage local high schools as well as the middle school design curriculum.

The LMC remembers Don Robinson, longtime member of IBEW Local 124, and Arthur Doyle, past president of Kansas City Power & Light Co. and father of Mid-Level Leadership graduate Chris Doyle, for their many years of outstanding service to the community. Both died during the past week, reminding us to be thankful for their dedication and leadership.
