•The Missouri legislature veto session will be Sept. 16. The LMC’s key priority will be upholding the governor’s veto of HB 116, “right-to-work.” A rally in support of the veto will be held at the Building Trades, 400 S Main, Independence, MO on Saturday, Sept. 12, 9:30 a.m. Gov. Nixon has confirmed attendance at the rally. Committee members are urged to contact legislators who voted “no” and confirm that they will not change their vote if an override vote is taken. “RTW” supporters are sending direct mail to voters in the districts of GOP legislators who voted no. The Missouri Senate will also be electing a new president pro tem, as Sen. Tom Dempsey resigned to take a position with Gate Way Group, a public issues firm. Likely candidates are Ron Richard and Gary Romine.
•The Workforce Subcommittee helped organize the successful Workforce & Diversity Summit Aug. 7, and a well-attended follow-up meeting Aug. 12. Details of the meetings have been sent to the committee. The next meeting will be among a small group next week to plan specific actions as a result of the Summit and follow-up meeting.
•NICE will hold the iBuild Showcase April 13, 2016 at Bartle Hall. NICE has a new education consultant, Dr. Larry King, and today will install Dave Lovetere as the next board president. NICE is working to expand its reach into the Kansas City Public Schools as well as other districts as well as expand construction industry involvement.
