•The Kansas City Kansas School District has a bond issue vote in November for $200 million. The district is now taking RFPs for construction manager at-risk.

•Both KCMO airports are building maintenance facilities, and runways are being refurbished.

•The KCMO Council moved from committee an ordinance with caps on subsidies. The Building Trades opposes the ordinance unless prevailing wage is included. A vote could come in two weeks.
•Missouri’s veto session is next week. None of the LMC’s priorities are involved. The state will have six issues on the November ballot (see attached).
•An op-ed developed by the Workforce Subcommittee appeared in the Kansas City Star Aug. 17. Additional efforts are underway to publicize the many minority and female workforce development programs in the industry, and how to access those opportunities. The KCMO Workforce Board may expand. KCK and other parts of the metro also deserve attention.
•The Builders' Association held a successful opening of its Advancement Center, which will highlight the industry's technology and training especially for young people. Mayor James, Councilwoman Alissia Canady, Sen. Ryan Silvey and Rep. Lauren Arthur were among the speakers.
