Labor-Management Council Takes Positions on November Ballot Issues
The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City (LMC) board of directors has voted to oppose one issue on the Nov. 8 ballot and to support six others.
A nonprofit comprised of more than 80 companies, unions and governments, the LMC examined issues that will be considered by metro area voters. Input from LMC members and committees led to a unanimous slate of positions:
•Vote No on Kansas CIty, Mo., Question 3 to increase the sales tax by 1/8th and 1/4 cent and shift 3/8s of the current ATA sales tax to build a light rail line from KCI to the Cerner campus.
•Vote Yes on Mid-Continent Public Library Proposition L to increase the library property tax levy within the Mid-Continent system by eight cents to fund capital improvements and service enhancements.
Jackson County
•Vote Yes on Jackson County Question 1 to renew the COMBAT sales tax to fight drug abuse through drug treatment and education services.
Kansas City, Kansas School District
•Vote Yes on the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools $235 million in bonds for capital improvements.
Johnson County
•Vote Yes on the Johnson County Public Safety sales tax to construct a new courthouse and related facilities.
Smithville School District
•Vote Yes on Smithville School District Questions 1 & 2 to issue $12.5 million in bonds to build a new school and other facilities and to increase the property tax levy.
