Immediate Past LMC Co-Chair and 2017 LMC honoree Pat "Duke" Dujakovich, Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO president, will be honored by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority at its annual Rosa Parks Spirit Awards Aug. 1 at the Midland Theater. Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Sly James, Independence Mayor Eileen Weir and KCMO Councilwomen Heather Hall and Teresa Loar will also be recognized for their leadership in transit issues. Duke will receive the Business Partner Award, recognizing the partnership between KC ATA and GKC AFL-CIO to provide transit for veterans. Duke and KCATA Executive Director Robbie Makinen (a former LMC board member) will discuss this project to open the Mid-America Labor/Management Conference July 10 at Camden on the Lake.

The Craig Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament is set for its 19th annual on Monday, July 17 at Oakwood Country Club. The field is filling up, though there is still time to sponsor, sing up to golf, volunteer or donate. Contact the LMC with questions.

Congrats to Michael Reardon, LMC Mid-Level Leadership graduate who has been named one of the Kansas City Business Journal's NextGen KC. Michael is operations director for LMC member McCownGordon Construction Co.

Also to Cemal Gungor, Mid-Level Leadership graduate and City of Grandview CFO who made the list as one of the KCBJ's top CFOs.

The Burns and McDonnell proposal to modernize the Kansas City International Airport now includes two LMC members are participants, JE Dunn Construction Co. and McCownGordon Construction Co. Additional proposals are being sought by the city; a public vote is expected Nov. 7.

Congratulations to new officers of United Auto Workers Local 31, including Dan Kandlbinder, president; Cindy Crable, financial secretary; Clarence Brown, vice president; and Dwayne "Hawk" Hawkins, shop chairman. And thanks to Vicki Hale and Dave Barnhart, outgoing president and financial secretary, respectively, for their support of the LMC and its mission.

Congrats to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on the joint baseball labor-management $1 million grant announced today. Major League Baseball, represented by Commissioner Rob Manfred, and the Major League Baseball Players Association, represented by Executive Director Tony Clark, announced the donation today supporting the museum's operation in Kansas City.

Baseball labor-management relations have many roots in Kansas City. Former MLBPA Executive Director Don Fehr came from the former labor law firm of Jolly Walsh, as did his brother Steve Fehr, who remains a prominent players' attorney and KC resident. The court case that led to player free agency was filed in KC. And of course KC was crucial to the Negro Leagues' founding and development. Kansas Citian the late Buck "'Neill founded the museum.

The LMC appreciates the chance to participate in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Labor Golf Tournament yesterday. Richard Martin, JE Dunn Construction Co., and Terry Stone, North Kansas City School District, played on the LMC foursome. Always great to see former LMC secretary Garry Kemp and outstanding LMC supporter Bruce Ellis.

Congrats to John Fennesy, who will be the new business manager of IBEW Local 124. He succeeds Terry Akins. Thanks to Terry for his years of LMC leadership as Co-Chair and outstanding support.

Congrats to Scott Albertson who will be the new business manager of Boilermakers Local 83. Scott succeeds Joe Lewandowski. Thanks to Joe for his strong support of the LMC and its mission.

And belatedly we note that Mike Snowden is now Bank of Labor market president-labor operations, and Bill Arnold is now Bank of Labor market president-community bank operations.

Former LMC leader Keith Nelson and former KCMO Councilman Dick Davis are leading the effort to install the Francois Chouteau and Native American Heritage Fountain on Chouteau Parkway between I-35 and Parvin Road.
