Construction Industry Steering Team Summary of Minutes

Attending: Greg Chastian, Greg Davey, Brian Dietz, Jeff Fosnough, Dave Kirkpatrick, Greg Lever, Bill Livingston, Joe Mabin, Chuck Tarpley, Bob Jacobi.
•Thanks to Rosana Privitera Biondo and Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting.
•Due to the KCI hearing at City Hall at 9:15 a.m., the meeting will end by 9 a.m.
•Jeff Fosnough, CBIZ, is attending to learn more about the LMC and so members can learn more about what CIBZ offers.
•The KCMO downtown convention hotel appears to be nearly free of petition threats, with more Council action underway. The groundbreaking is likely for late fall.
•Cerner’s winning of the Veterans Administration bid may hasten the construction of two more buildings at its new campus.
•Kansas City, Kansas School District remodel work is undersay. The Shawnee Mission School District is building two new elementary schools but under a CM agency rather than at-risk process, so JE Dunn will not have those projects under its role. Bidd will be directly with the district.
•Smithville School District is starting construction on a new elementary school soon.
•The Missouri legislature has been called into special session again, this time to address abortion issues. A session on prevailing wage is possible. Administrative changes by the Missouri Dept. of Labor can also affect prevailing wage’s effectiveness.
•Kansas’ override of the Governor’s tax bill veto brings some stability to the budget and hope for restoring funds to the transportation plan in the future.
•KCMO’s diversity study has been completed and is now entering a review process. A mayoral-appointed committee will review the study and recommendations.
•The US Dept. of Labor has issues new apprenticeship standards that increase the emphasis on diversity. Proposed funding cuts may affect the department’s ability to assist and monitor implementation of the standards. The disability standard will be a challenge to meet.
•NICE’s iBuild Showcase was successful with more than 2,000 students. The next event is the annual awards luncheon Oct. 17.
•Burns & McDonnell will host an outreach session or MBE/WBE contractors today from 5-7 p.m. at Morningstar Baptist Church, 27th and Prospect.
•GKC Chamber President Joe Reardon is presenting on the KCI project at CBIZ to its 500 local employees June 19. Educating employees and members is critical to ultimate approval of the project.
•Upcoming events include KCI hearing at KCMO City Hall at 9:15 a.m. and Greater Kansas City Chamber information sessions at noon and at 4 p.m. at the Chamber today. Other events include:
