•KCI is updating its international flights facilities. McCownGordon is the contractor.
•The Missouri Senate Interim Committee on Labor Reform is considering prevailing wage. Efforts are underway to craft a compromise bill for 2018 consideration. Efforts also continue to restore local option prevailing wage in Kansas. Missouri no longer puts archived wage orders online, but Colleen White has copies she can provide for Orders 23 and 24 if needed. There are also concerns that economic incentive programs will be on the block during the 2018 Missouri session, particularly historic and low income tax credits though local incentives may get reviewed as well.
•The Nov. 7 election for a new KCMO airport single terminal is critical. The election is likely to be close. That day will also see elections for local and school board offices in Kansas and a special election for Missouri’s 8th Senate district in Jackson County.
•NICE holds its annual luncheon Oct. 17 and will feature representatives of the KCI construction team to discuss the process for building the new terminal (pending the Nov. 7 vote). NICE expects expansion of the iBuild Showcase with increased involvement from the Kansas City, Mo., Public Schools and is hosting Senior Days at apprentice training facilities.
•The LMC holds its Public Officials Reception tonight at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. All committee members are welcome.
•The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust is considering investment opportunities in the Kansas City region. The LMC is putting together developers and contractors interested in multifamily and senior living projects to meet with the Trust. Contact Bob Jacobi with suggestions.
•A possible next Construction Summit was discussed. Health care and technology will be the topics. Committee members are urged to bring ideas to the next several meetings to develop a program for late Spring 2018.
