•Thanks to Rockhurst University for hosting.

•M/S/C to approve the financial report subject to audit.

•M/S/C to delete the word  “downtown” from the Missouri position in support of a UMKC performing arts campus and drop the Kansas watch position on the driveway tax from the 2018 Issues Agenda.  Support was reiterated for Missouri Proposition D, the gas tax increase.

•M/S/C to endorse the Kansas City Public Library Question tax levy increase.

•M/S/C to hold the 40th Anniversary Celebration and 20th Awards Dinner at Argosy Casino on April 18, 2019.

•Discussions of membership recruitment, the success of the Public Officials Reception, potential speakers for the 2018 Anniversary Celebration, Mid-Level Leadership Program and potential officers for 2019.

•The next meeting will be Jan. 16 or 17, 2019, depending on a survey of board members’ schedules at Rockhurst University.

CIC Talks with Mayoral Hopeful Glynn

Construction Industry Steering Team Summary of Minutes

•Thanks to Rosana Privitera Biondo and Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting at their new office, 1414 Genessee.

•Discussion with Phil Glynn, Kansas City, Mo., mayoral candidate.  He outlined his plans for keeping and attracting quality jobs through building skills, affordable housing, reliable workforce transportation and sustainable economic growth.  He emphasized that plans for economic development in communities must include residents to be successful, not just civic and business leaders.  Glynn discussed his experience with economic development projects on native American properties around the nation as well as service on the KCMO TIF Commission.  He plans to release a detailed skill development strategy soon which would include the city created a Chief Skills Officer position.  Glynn noted that in recent years KCMO had, appropriately, invested in buildings but now needs to shift resources towards developing workforce.  Infrastructure development should be targeted at workforce and education transportation, such as sidewalks to schools.  The challenges of affordable housing were discussed.  Glynn noted from his experience that strategic use of LITEC federal and, when available, state credits are key to achieving quality and affordability.  He also introduced Anita Davis from his campaign, who has experience in workforce development in Denver.

•KCMO is slated to discuss a revised MBE/WBE ordinance today, as well as changes in MBE/WBE goals for the KCI project.

•NICE has its annual fundraising luncheon Oct. 30.  Keynote speaker will be from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association with a focus on horizontal construction.  NICE is also sponsoring Senior Days at apprenticeship programs and is preparing for the Crayons to CAD and iBuild next year.

•The LMC Public Officials Reception will be tonight, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

•The next meeting will be 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 , 2018 at Mark One’s new location, 1414 Genessee, KCMO 64102.

The LMC's annual Public Officials Reception Thursday, Oct. 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts has more than 130 RSVPs. There's still time to rsvp and to sponsor-just contact Bob Jacobi.

Also, attendees should be aware of the center's policies:
NEW BAG POLICY AT THE KAUFFMAN CENTER
All bags and persons entering the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts are subject to search. Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts management reserves the right to refuse any item deemed a potential safety or security risk or with the potential to be a distraction to the event being held.
Any item carried into the Kauffman Center that is larger than 12 inches on any side (including clear bags) and backpacks (including string backpacks) are prohibited. Patrons with prohibited items have two options:
1. The item may be returned to their vehicle.
2. The item may be left at the Kauffman Center’s Coat Check located on the Plaza Lobby Level. A visual inspection of item contents will occur in the patron’s presence.
The following exception will be made after a proper inspection:
1. Diaper bags are permitted for families with infants and toddlers. The child/toddler must be in attendance.
2. Guests with oversized medically necessary items. Transfer bags will be available and must be used for smaller items such as EpiPen’s, prescriptions, personal hygiene products, etc. if they are being carried in a bag larger than 12 inches on any side.
Backpack purses smaller than 12 inches on any side must be worn on one shoulder. If the purse is worn as a backpack, the patron will be escorted to Coat Check and may pick up their item after the event.

Unattended items left anywhere in the facility will be inspected and taken to the Security Office to ensure patron safety.

The LMC sends best wishes to Jason Kander, former Missouri Secretary of State and state representative, who announced today that he would end his mayoral campaign to focus on getting treatment for PTSD he has suffered since his military service in Afghanistan.

The LMC Construction Committee Oct. 11 will meet at Mark One Electric Co., Inc.'s new office location: 1414 Genessee, KCMO 64102 (the former Gateway computer building and local office of the Missouri Department of Labor).

The LMC mourns the passing of architect Mark Viets, who worked on numerous projects (including Rockhurst University) built by LMC members. At virtually the same time, the chair of Mark's firm (Peckham Guyton Albers Viets), Fred Guyton, also died. Fred was the husband of former GKC Chamber Vice President Beverly Estes. Our condolences to both families and to the firm.
