The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City

The LMC thanks Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting LMC members at its Kauffman Stadium suite for the April 28 Royals-Angels game. The setting provided the perfect opportunity for LMC members to build relationships and enjoy baseball. While the Royals didn't win, the crew did get to see former Kansas Citian Albert Pujos pass Barry Bonds for third on MLB's all-time career RBI list and see Alex Gordon reach base four times. Attendees from public sector and construction along with their guests appreciate Mark One's generosity and support of labor-management cooperation. The LMC mourns the death of Henry Bloch, founder of H&R Block. In addition to his many philanthropic contributions and creation of many jobs in the Kansas City area, he also played a role in the founding of the LMC as noted at the LMC's 40th Anniversary Celebration last week. Mr. Bloch joined Bill Dunn, Sr., in initial discussions with labor leaders over how to reduce disruption from strikes and impact legislation where both agreed. Those discussions led to the founding of the LMC.

The LMC remembers Walter White, who died recently. Walter was a strong supporter of the LMC mission and was particularly helpful to the Mid-America Labor/Management Conference. His role at Commerce Bank involved working with the benefit and other funds of many of our member organizations, and his leadership of the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors brought their resources to many events. His enthusiasm, kindness and signing voice will be greatly missed.

Congrats to LMC member IBC, Inc. for being named to the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce list of top 10 small businesses. IBC Inc. is a contender for the top honor to be announced.

The LMC's Construction Industry Committee next meets at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 11 at Mark One Electric Co., Inc. Economic Development Corp. President Bob Langenkamp will speak.

The LMC congratulates winners in yesterday's municipal and school board elections. We thank both the victors and those who did not win for making an effort to improve our community. We look forward to working with you on issues of interest to labor, management and the community.
