Construction Industry Steering Team Summary of Minutes

Attending: Greg Davey, Brian Dietz, Kevin Gard, Jerry Helmick, Don Hunt, Bob Langenkamp, Greg Lever, Jeff Stiffler, Colleen White, Bob Jacobi.
•Thanks to Rosana Privitera Biondo and Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting.
•Presentation from and discussion with Bob Langenkamp, president, Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City. The EDCKC’s processes and priorities were explained. EDC is looking at substantial development opportunities including near the Missouri River/Blue Valley and Eastside. Encouraging business startups is also a new area of activity particularly technology-oriented firms through its grant program and continues to add funding for the grants through sponsors. The organization also , continues its work on attraction and retention of KCMO businesses. EDCKC staffs most though not all of incentive-granting agencies in KCMO. The ballot proposal for a 50% cap on incentives would harm development in KCMO.
•Updates on the implementation of changes in Missouri’s prevailing wage law. A key will be inclusion of enforcement funding in the state budget.
•iBuild is April 18; reception and move-in is April 17 at Bartle Hall. Volunteers are needed and booths are available. An increase in high school participants is expected.
•The two winners of the KCMO mayoral primary, Council members Jolie Justus and Quinton Lucas, will be invited to the May and June meetings.
•The LMC’s 40th Anniversary Celebration is April 18 at Argosy Casino.
