•Thanks to Rosana Privitera Biondo and Mark One Electric Co., Inc. for hosting.
•Get well wishes to our scheduled speaker, Jon Stephens, who is ill today. We have rescheduled is visit for Nov. 14.
•Discussion of compliance with Missouri’s new prevailing wage law, and its impacts. Contractor reporting is an essential component to an accurate wage order. The University of Missouri system is limiting apprentices credit to those in a registered program, and Jackson County is considering a similar approach.
•Affordable housing continues to be a challenging issue. Some cities have had success with single-family construction on smaller lots; cities can help that trend with zoning variances.
•The LMC will offer new KCMO Mayor Lucas assistance with finding good candidates for board and commission appointments, particularly at economic incentive agencies.
•The committee expressed appreciation for retiring KCMO City Manager Troy Schulte’s work.
•Local election boards are searching for election day judges for the 2020 cycle. Judges do get paid and is an opportunity for retirees, unemployed and those interested in the political process.
•The NICE annual awards luncheon features a discussion construction workforce development with Facebook and Turner Construction. The presenting sponsor will be Hardhat in Hand Turner.
