The LMC Construction Industry Committee and Construction Summit will meet next in-person at Mark One Electric Co., Inc., at 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.

Congratulations to John Sherman, owner of LMC member Kansas City Royals, for his selection as Kansas Citian of the Year by LMC member Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Sherman was honored not only for the progress made by the Royals since his group took ownership but also for his career as a business and civic leader.

The LMC thanks member Turner Construction Co. and the Kansas City Business Journal for sponsoring a forum on bias-motivated events on construction sites. Panelists included Don Greenwell, Builders' Association president and LMC treasurer; Kevin Hendrickson, business manager of LMC member Pipefitters Local 533; Andrea Dorch, City of Kansas City, Mo., director of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity and LMC Construction Committee member; Turner Construction Co. leaders Karen Hogan, De'Jon Slaughter and Fuqan Collins; and Tom Benassi, MMC Contractors.

The Construction Industry Committee and the Construction Summit postponed today's scheduled meeting to help honor Veterans Day. The committee next meets Dec. 9, 8 a.m.

The Mid-Level Leadership Program concluded its fall sessions Nov. 10 with Kelly Tyler Burnes (Voyage Consulting and Rockhurst University adjunct faculty) teaching about organizational culture. See a photo and more information at left under Nov. 10, 2021 Mid-Level Leadership.

The LMC is sad to report the death of Joyce Dujakovich, mother of Duke Dujakovich. Duke is a past LMC Co-Chair and president of the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 15th from 4-6pm at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home 11924 E 47th Street, KCMO. The rosary will be recited at 4pm. A mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, November 16, at 12pm at St Mary’s Catholic Church 600 N Liberty St, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The House of Representatives has passed the federal infrastructure bill, sending it to President Biden for his signature.

Increasing federal infratructure investment has long been an LMC priority, and we appreciate Reps. Emanual Cleaver and Sharice Davids for voting yes on the bill. They were the only Representatives from their respective states to vote yes; 13 Republicans nationwide voted yes and six Democrats no.

The past three years have seen many of our key legislative/public issue agenda items accomplished: defeat of Missouri "right-to-work," renweal of KCMO's earnings tax, implementation of Missouri Medicaid expansion, passage of substantial revenue increase for Missouri transportation, prevailing wage included in KCMO economic development incentive requirements, repeal of the "Cadillac" tax on health insurance plans among others. The efforts of our member organizations and allies have been critical to these successes.

Services for former US Rep. Dennis Moore will be Thursday, November 18, at Johnson County Community College - Yardley Hall at 11 a.m.

The LMC congratulates Mike Kane, executive committee member, for his reelection to the Unified Government Commission; Tom Burroughs, Mid-Level Leadership Program graduate, for also being reelected to the Unified Government Commission; and current Mid-Level Leadership participant Lee Cross for his re-election to the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees.

The Construction Industry Committee will not meet Nov. 11 due to conflicts. The next meeting of the committee and the Construction Summit will be 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.
