LMC Board Meeting Summary of Minutes

Attending: Lance Claiborne, Greg Davey, Ed Downey, Tom Gebken, Gabe Jones, Bo Moreno, Ralph Oropeza, Chris Stanton, Bob Jacobi
•Thanks to Greg Davey and the Builders’ for hosting
•The LMC welcomes Lance Claiborne, new president of the Builders’ AGC, to Kansas City and to involvement with the LMC. We also thank Don Greenwell for his tremendous service to the LMC and to the community.
•M/S/C to approve the Financial Statement, Cash Flow Report and Membership Report
•M/S/C to endorse renewal of the Kansas City, Mo., Transportation sales tax on the Nov. 7 ballot
•M/S/C to endorse the Jackson County use tax on the Nov. 7 ballot
•The 2024 Issues Agenda will be discussed and approved at the January Board meeting. The 2023 agenda had many successes at the federal, Missouri and local levels, including coverage of Missouri 911 workers as first responders under workers compensation.
•The Mid-America Labor/Management Conference will return to Camden on the Lake for three more years. Suggestions on speakers and topics for 2024 are welcome; July 7-10 are the dates. The Mid-Level Leadership Program has nine participants; two sessions have been held. The Craig Whitaker Golf Tournament showed continued growth. The Sporting Clay Shoot will discontinue offering free ammunition for the 2024 event, as shortages have abated. The Public Officials Reception Oct. 12 is on track to meet and improve upon projections; board members are urged to encourage attendance. The larger space allows for even more attendees. Several venues will be considered for the 2024 Anniversary Celebration and Awards Dinner, including Argosy Casino where it has been held for many years.
•Mike Kelly, Johnson County Commissioner, will speak at the Oct. 12 Construction Committee meeting.
•The LMC was pleased to meet with Jim Monroe, one of our two living founders, on his recent visit to KC.
•The Kansas Department of Transportation will hold consultation sessions for its new projects Oct. 17. Details are at https://ike.ksdot.gov/projects/local-consult-process.
•The Department of Labor recently held a roundtable on how to set and report misclassification of workers for employment security. More discussion will be held in the future.
•At least two Board vacancies will be considered at the January meeting due to retirements.
•The next Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
